Art Philosophy by Prima Watercolor Confections - Tropicals
One of the first watercolor pans that I bought was from Prima Watercolor Confections. I found it in Panduro, a hobby and craft store, for half the price and I hastily bought it. At that time I didn't know much about watercolors and I bought the set because it was on sale and I liked the packaging.
Another reason why I liked it is because of the casing. The pigments came in this black palette tin case. It is a good compact size and ideal for travelling.
The pans were made of white plastic and were individually packed. I forgot to take photos when I was unpacking them so I am not able to show it. The plastic pans were labeled with the color's number on the side for easy identification. Each pan can be removed from the holder and can be snapped back into place. Remember to adjust the metal edges to secure the pans place if they sit loosely in the case, which they tend to do every now and then.
A small swatch card that fits in the metal case also came with the set. The cards already have the name and corresponding number of the colors printed on them. The colors included in this set are Island, Coconut, Hurricane, Parrot, Hibiscus, Palms, Pitaya, Reef, Pineapple, Sunset, Ocean and Tiki. Prima's naming sense is fun and creative.
What are my impressions for this set? For a beginner like me, I would say that it was fun to use. The paints in the pans looked rough after unpacking but they were easy to wet and quite creamy to use. I had no problem mixing them with each other. However, not much information was given about the pigments used which could be troublesome when mixing colors. Though I am still happy I bought it, since you don't see them that often in stores anymore.
